Maurice Campbell was born and raised in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and began his athletic journey at the prestigious St. Jago High School, known for producing elite Jamaican athletes such as Bertland Cameron and Kerron Stewart. Maurice represented St. Jago and Jamaica in track and field, specializing in the 400m, where he competed internationally and earned multiple medals.
In 1998, Maurice migrated to the United States to complete his high school education at Boyd H. Anderson High School in Florida. There, he was a Florida High School State Championship finalist and later earned a track scholarship to Southwestern Christian College, where he pursued an Associate Degree in Computer Science. Maurice achieved All-American honors in the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, and 400m events.
After completing college, Maurice returned to Florida in 2003 to pursue a professional track and field career under the mentorship of legendary sprinter Dennis Mitchell. During this time, he also worked as a mentor at Eckerd Youth Alternatives and continued to compete in meets both locally and internationally. In 2011, Maurice returned to Jamaica to train at Racers Track Club with former coach Bert Cameron, further refining his technical knowledge of the sport. He also benefited from coaching insights provided by Glen Mills, O.D., former coach of Usain Bolt.
Maurice’s entrepreneurial spirit led to the launch of his first training company, PT One and One, in 2013, under the advisement of Mr. Conrad Jackson and Mr. Christopher Campbell.
From 2015 to 2020, Maurice coached at Lake Minneola High School. Beginning as a volunteer, he was promoted to Assistant Coach and later Program Director, playing a critical role in the development of the school’s track and field program. Under his guidance, Lake Minneola’s girls’ 4x400m team made their debut at the prestigious FSU Relays in 2016 and set multiple school records. That same year, a Lake Minneola athlete earned the school’s first-ever full track and field scholarship to the University of South Florida. In recognition of these accomplishments, Maurice was promoted to Head Coach in 2020.
In 2022, Maurice shifted his full focus to the Wind Speed Athletics Track Club, which he founded in 2016. Drawing on decades of experience as both an elite athlete and coach, Maurice has cultivated a space for student-athletes throughout Lake County and Central Florida to thrive—on and off the track. His approach emphasizes technical development, mentorship, and a mindset of perseverance.
